The Dyson DC15 Animal vacuum definitely has more suction power than the older Dyson DC07 . However, the Dyson DC07 is still a good vacuum for pet hair. I initially wanted to test whether the DC 15 had conquered the DC07′s problem of picking up large particles like Cheerios. I focused on testing the vacuum’s large particle pick up ability because I assumed (correctly) that the DC 15 would do a even better job picking up dirt and pet hair than the DC 07. When I started my test using the DC 15, I could see cheerios jumping up and down as I moved closer to them and slowly vacuumed them up.
While Dyson has obviously listened to customer complaints about the cheaper DC07’s lack luster ability to pick up cheerio size particles, the DC15 can’t pick up these particles fast. I still believe that this is because all Dyson vacuums automatically adjust to the height of the carpet. While this automatic vacuum head adjustment is perfect for vacuuming deeply embedded dirt and pet hair, large particles can get pushed around as you vacuum. I find that if a cheerio’s like or larger disaster happens, using a wet/dry vac is the ideal quick solution. However, the DC15′s ability to suck up embedded dirt, pet hair and dust in a carpet is outstanding. While the Dyson DC15 Animal did not make our best vacuum for pet hair list largely due to newer, better vacuum models, it is still an exceptional vacuum.
The Dyson DC15 brush bar, which automatically adjusts to the height of the carpet was perfect. I usually had to wiggle the DC07′s handle when I started vacuuming so that it could find the ideal vacuuming height. The DC15 now sports a clear housing for the brush bar. You can now clearly see when the bristles that are attached to the bar eventually become entangled with dog hair and other stringy debris. Clearing the debris is a cinch. Unscrew the brush housing using a coin and cut out the offending debris. The great thing about Dyson vacuums is that you will never need workshop tools such as screw drivers to maintain them.
The ball and the stabilizer wheels allow you to vacuum under your dining room table for example, with your arm and body fully extended without the brush bar rising up. The ball also allows you to turn the DC15 quickly without moving your body. This feature saves time because it allows you to vacuum areas that normally require an attachment tool. Apart from vacuuming daily, keeping my rugs smelling fresh and free from ground in dirt is a weekly chore for my dog daycare and boarding business. I used to liberally sprinkle Arm and Hammer’s pet fresh baking soda then I would manually work the carpets with a brush. As I manually worked the carpet, dust from the baking soda would fly all over the place. The Dyson DC15 Animal comes with a great accessory, it’s a hidden gem that has no name but its supposed to be used with Dyson’s Zorb carpet powder. The device which I will call the Carpet Groomer serves two purposes. It does an excellent job of conditioning the carpet as you work your preferred brand of baking soda into the carpet. The carpet groomer also sucks in the dust from the carpet that inevitably rises from the carpet as you work it. The carpet groomer greatly reduces the need to vacuum your upholstery and wipe down your furniture after conditioning your carpet. The DC15 animal does not use disposable bags and filters. That alone has already saved me hundreds of dollars. A squeeze of a trigger found at the top of the DC15′s clear bin, disposes of accumulated debris quickly and cleanly. The DC15 also comes with a five year warranty. Dyson is the only large company that I have called that did not put me on hold when I thought I had a problem. The Dyson DC15 is a great vacuum. It is significantly better than the Dyson DC07. The DC07 is still a good vacuum with fantastic dirt sucking abilities. The DC15 adds to the DC07’s abilities in more ways than one.
